The Canvas cofounders met at Flexport where they saw data teams spend countless hours maintaining BI tools, only for business teams to hit the “export to CSV” button. Traditionally, BI tools have left data teams drowning in late-night Slacks, business teams giving up on waiting for data, and an inevitable lack of trust between both teams. To bring business and data teams together, they built Canvas, a collaborative, spreadsheet-based data workspace. Canvas provides a live translation layer between SQL and pivots, formulas, and charts which lets teams interact with data using the language they are most familiar with. The result is that business teams can make faster, data-driven decisions and data teams get precious time back to focus on impactful, strategic work – the reason they fell in love with data in the first place.
