We first met Zūm, then called Liftee, in 2015. Founder Ritu was a working parent tackling a problem she knew well—navigating the inefficient school transportation system. We were impressed by the numbers—20 billion rides per year—but also by the grit required to create a market for cargo as precious as children. In early 2017, we visited Zūm’s headquarters and were surprised to learn that the company, which was building an incredibly robust service, had only a few (extremely dedicated) employees. Their drive inspired us to partner and we led their next round.
