Aurora hires people who are excited to build the future of transportation. We are searching for an experienced software engineer to join our Simulation team. This individual will contribute to the development of simulation architecture to enable Aurora’s self-driving stack to be trained, tested, prototyped and validated in a virtual environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Automate and scale scenario creation from complex on-road experiences
  • Extend our simulation architecture to more efficiently simulate motion planning, localization, and controls real-world driving scenarios at scale
  • Create realistic simulated interactions between multiple actors
  • Implement physics models to simulate vehicle dynamics
  • Develop validation and metrics to grade the performance of our autonomous vehicle's software in simulation

Essential

  • Excellent C++ programming and software design skills
  • MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, or similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of industry experience programming C++ software 
  • 3+ years of experience in simulation, robotics, motion planning, or controls
  • Strong mathematical skills, including linear algebra, numerical methods, and stochastic methods
  • Passion for solving challenging, impactful problems 

Desirable

  • Experience building simulations for industry or research
  • Experience with motion planning or behavior planning
  • Experience in the autonomous driving industry

The Founding Team

Aurora has assembled the most experienced leadership team in the space. Chris Urmson helped lead Carnegie Mellon’s efforts in Darpa’s Grand Challenges, then was a founding member of Google’s self-driving team. Sterling Anderson worked on the tech at MIT before leading Tesla’s Autopilot system. Drew Bagnell, also a Carnegie Mellon alum, is a machine learning expert who helped build Uber’s autonomy effort. At Aurora, these three continue to bring experts from all areas of the industry to the team. We are funded by Amazon, T Rowe Price, and some of Silicon Valley’s best venture capital firms, including Sequoia, Greylock and Index Ventures.
