We’re searching for a Product Safety and Compliance Engineer, Safety Analysis.

The Safety Analysis team within Aurora applies analytical skill and technical expertise to identify, assess, and mitigate hazards throughout the product development lifecycle. We work with software engineers, hardware engineers, systems, operations, and test teams to efficiently deliver the appropriate level of mission assurance for on-road, highly automated systems.

This position requires broad technical knowledge in order to analyze, frame, and suggest assurances regarding architecture, design, development, and/or testing of autonomous software and/or hardware systems. Potential safety concerns need to be identified, reported and addressed correctly to ensure compliance with regulations, laws, relevant industry standards, and internal due care safety considerations.

In this role, you will

  • Manage and improve the verification framework used in safety respective compliance assessment
  • Identify and interpret applicable standards, regulations, industry best practices in the development of due care requirements
  • Propose and implement plans of action within the organizational framework
  • Analyze and identify safety risks associated with internal and external compliance-related considerations and concerns
  • Review data from Operations, Grounding, and other available SMS items
  • Review manufacturing, maintenance and service records for data and events related to safety critical tests, parts, systems and processes
  • Review design changes made to modify the base vehicle platform to ensure that original compliance is not affected and non-compliance is prevented
  • Analyze safety impact for proposed engineering and/or validation activities
  • Assure safety compliance through coordination and collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Maintenance, Operations, Legal, and Environmental Health and Safety

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field
  • Experience with field operations for complex systems
  • Direct experience with safety compliance assessment process and methods
  • Experience in the collection, management, and analysis of field safety data for industry  
  • Delivery of engineering and technical feedback for continuous improvement
  • Working knowledge of post-implementation monitoring for compliance assessment

Desirable Qualifications

  • Understanding of existing vehicle safety standards, e.g., FMVSS, CMVSS, FMCSR, UN ECE, US NCAP, Euro NCAP, IIHS, ISO, SAE, etc.
  • Capable of generating, maintaining, and using analysis methodologies to identify failure modes, system dependencies, and hazards
  • Prior experience with tools for project and requirements management
  • Experience with field safety related Safety Management System process implementation
