Job Description / Skills Required

The Applications System Administrator will be responsible for all aspects of supporting proprietary and third party applications and their related infrastructure environments at UnitedLex Corporation. This role assumes full accountability along with the other members of the team for delivery of services that meet all business requirements, as well as providing outstanding customer service, technical knowledge, accurate and timely deliverables. This includes advanced troubleshooting, proper scoping, resource allocation, documentation, communication, testing and deployment. The Applications System Administrator will be able to provide expert systems knowledge and support development and operational phases of the information life cycle. The individual will have an in depth knowledge of SQL Server and Microsoft systems. The Applications System Services Administrator must be able to collaborate with IT teams and the Applications Support teams to effectively deliver reliable, well designed solutions. The individual will be accountable for system availability, performance and service delivery required to meet business needs.


Provides detailed technical support for all applications

Be an escalation point for advanced application support and troubleshooting needs

Maintains a high level of stability and availability of all supported systems

Performs application upgrades and updates during change control windows

On project by project basis, provide solutions specific to the requirements not met by application’s functionalities or implement processes that will enhance application’s performance to client’s expectation

Work with all departments to troubleshoot application issues

Supports operations and client services teams as needed

Creates and maintains up-to-date documentation

Responsible for hands on support when needed to supplement team resources

Monitor, test, and tune system performance of supported information systems

Performs standard configuration, management and maintenance tasks for related file systems, input/output systems, networking, clustering, storage and applications

Ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment

Ability to quickly learn new concepts and software

Strong Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

Strong communication skills, both written and oral

Responsible for system administration tasks, including server upgrades, patch deployments, server certificate management, architecture review / design and general best practices

Able to work effectively in a team environment

Performs system software upgrades, configuration and customization, including planning and scheduling projects

Provides recommendations for new and ongoing technology best practices

Continually seeks ways to improve services through automation and scripting

Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned

Provides Windows Operating System (OS) installation and configuration services

Collaborates with third-party vendors in support of resolving complex technical issues

Additional Duties

Supports Relativity a plus but not required

Support SQL 2008- 2012, 2014

Supports Windows Server (2003, 2008, 2012)

Knowledge of Microsoft IIS (v6 & v7) and Apache webservers

Working knowledge of OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager)

Provides general technical troubleshooting including Storage Arrays

Cloud environment experience a plus but not required

Familiar with scripting and PowerShell

Understands and provide recommendations on monitoring and alerts best practices

Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Zabbix and ThousandEyes


1-2 years' experience working with Relativity in the eDiscovery industry preferred

2+ years of experience supporting applications based on the Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS platform

Relevant Certifications: RCA and RIS preferred, MCSA/MCSE a plus

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of system architecture and administration experience with both web and client-based application interfaces, middleware, databases and storage systems; or equivalent combination of post high school education and experience

Good understanding of the ITIL, ITSM principles

Develop and maintain knowledge of all UnitedLex’s proprietary and 3rd party applications

Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration

Strong technical problem solving, trouble-shooting and communication skills

Good working knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows administration

General knowledge of Windows DNS and authentication principals as used in multi-tiered client server applications

Ability to quickly learn and support new applications and technologies

Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision

Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills

Ability and willingness to work on-call hours, including weekends and after-hours is required

Occasional weekend/after-hours required
