You will be joining a world-class team of self-driving vehicle pioneers that is enabling a revolution in safe and efficient transportation. Our company is nestled in the nerve centers of self-driving technology: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as well as San Francisco and Palo Alto, California.
Our Mechanical Engineers work closely with a multidisciplinary team spanning both hardware and software to define, design, test, and integrate self-driving vehicle systems.
Work closely with autonomy software teams to define and translate sensor, planning, and control requirements into hardware specifications
Design, assemble, test, and integrate beautiful, robust sensors, computers, and their accompanying power, heating, cooling and cleaning solutions
Design for prototype and mass-production including machined, injection-molded, formed, die-casted, and extruded parts
Perform design analysis including stress, strain, thermal, modal, and tolerance
Create 2-D drawings and documentation with GD&T and SPC fundamentals
Work with hardware platform partners to optimize Aurora design for high-volume production and reliability
BS or MS in mechanical engineering. Preference is given to those who have broad experience spanning several disciplines in the robotics domain
Applicants with a MS degree should have 2+ years of total professional experience with direct contribution to successful and relevant products
Applicants with a BS degree should have 3+ years of total professional experience with direct contribution to successful and relevant products
Proficient in CAD design - Catia V6 and Solidworks preferred, not required
Hobbyists with significant DIY experience and a demonstrated record of executing solid design into great product
Knowledge of rapid prototyping, design-for-manufacture, design-for-test, and design-of-experiments
A-class part design experience ideally in partnership with automotive design teams
Experience with or applied knowledge of motor vehicle systems and bus architectures
Thermal management design sense with applied product experience
Electro-mechanical experience with control drawings for PCBAs, connector selection, harness specification, and shielding requirements
Understanding of automotive requirements and qualification processes
Strong presentation and communication skills for driving critical design decisions
