Manager - Safety Driver Team

Embark is a San Francisco/SoCal based team building self-driving semi trucks. We believe this technology will transform the trucking industry by saving lives, cutting delivery times in half, and dramatically decreasing the cost of transportation
We have raised $117MM in total and are backed by Tiger Global Management ($70MM Series C) and Sequoia Capital ($30MM Series B). We move freight daily between LA and Phoenix using our purpose-built transfer hubs. This is an incredibly exciting time for autonomous driving and our team is looking to grow.
About the Role
Our operations team is responsible for the day-to-day running of our fleet of autonomous trucks. We are looking to bring on a Safety Driver Team Manager to oversee on-road safety and lead our growing team of Safety Drivers and dispatchers, based out of Fontana, CA. This is a high impact role where you will play a big part in shaping how this team scales.
What you’ll do
Leading our growing team of safety drivers, driver trainers and dispatchers
- Ensure the safe and efficient day to day operations
- Support recruiting efforts in growing the safety driver team
- Lead coaching and career development for safety driver team
Oversee on-road safety
- Review safety events and coach team members to improve safety
- Develop safety training curriculum
- Hold regular safety meetings
Safety Driver Compliance Oversight
- Oversee adherence to DOT requirements for CDL drivers
- Identify opportunities for efficiency and safety improvements
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing a team of 30+ people
- +5 years of leadership experience in trucking, autonomous driving or start-up operations
- Evidence of exceptional ability, especially within an ambiguous and fast changing environment
- Experience overseeing safety and rolling out successful safety programs in a field where safety is of critical importance
- A history of implementing procedural and organizational improvements in an ambiguous and fast changing environment
