Confluent’s infrastructure org includes a small sub-team focused strictly on understanding, reporting, and lowering our public cloud provider costs. Cost engineering subsystems offer insight into infrastrastructure analytics and regular reporting which further breaks down this information into actionable business data.
These insights are also used to drive architectural improvements across the platform on all engineering teams, giving this team a unique ability to impact the business directly and learn about all facets of Confluent cloud engineering.

About the Role:
- Develop services in golang and python that regularly capture infrastructure details into our data warehouse
- Work directly with all three major cloud provider APIs to tag resources programmatically based on rich context available within the rest of the cloud platform
- Work with other engineering teams to ensure cost-optimal architectures
- Work closely with business and data teams to ensure dashboards and alerts give the business the data they need to understand product costs and margins
What We Are Looking For:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 4+ years industry experience designing, building, operating and supporting large-scale systems in production with a solid grasp on good software engineering practices such as code reviews, deep focus on quality, and documentation
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
- Proficiency in Go or Python
- Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform or CloudFormation
- Hands-on exposure to Kubernetes operators, Helm or StatefulSets
- Familiarity with AWS, GCP or Azure cloud environments and technologies
- Experience building APIs, both RESTful and gRPC/Thrift based
- Strong analytical and debugging skills, familiarity with OpenCensus or OpenTracing
