About the role:
In order to support our current rapid expansion we're investing heavily in tools and automation to help our engineers be as happy and productive as possible. We're looking for a talented and motivated engineering manager to join our new Developer Infrastructure organization. You will help set the direction for the next generation of Robinhood's engineering tools and processes.
About the area, Developer Infrastructure:
Developer Infrastructure’s mission is to increase the efficiency, velocity, reliability, and scalability of Robinhood Engineering.
What we do -- We help Robinhood engineers write code. We speed up getting code out of an engineer's head and into customers’ hands safely. We drive consistency across platforms and toolchains. We enable product engineers to focus completely on what code to write rather than how to write that code. We find, fix, and prevent issues during the development cycle rather than in production. We see engineering as a whole and drive systemic improvements to our development process and culture.
Why we do it -- Impact and leverage. When we make a 10% improvement, the company improves by at least 10%. We are critical to the way the company operates--Robinhood’s engineers could not do their jobs without our tools and systems. We enable Robinhood engineering to scale.
Your day-to-day will involve:
You’ll develop inclusive teams in which people are empowered to do the best work of their careers.
Collaborate with your other engineers to understand their tooling needs
Find opportunities on your own team and others to automate
Always strive toward continuous improvement and operational efficiency
You'll mentor and grow engineers while keeping them engaged and focused on the product and company vision.
You’ll enhance the quality of Robinhood’s products and engineering by refining metrics and establishing processes for improvement
You’ll implement effective engineering processes and policies that emphasize quality and forward progress.
You'll help set and fulfill the engineering hiring plan for the team, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing.
You have 5+ years of experience serving in an engineering management role shipping developer-facing products.
You have managed a fullstack team including mobile, web, and backend engineers.
You are very organized. With many people doing many things in a fast-moving company, strong organizational skills—both for yourself and for the team—will be required.
You possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
You are able to weigh several and often conflicting constraints and make rapid choices in a fast-moving and quickly-growing company.
You love helping engineers develop new skills and advance in their careers. You don’t shy away from performance conversations and you recognize the relationship between constructive feedback and career growth.
You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
You may have used some of the technologies in our stack, such as Python, Django, Go, Bazel, Rust, Typescript, React, Swift, Kotlin, Postgres, Kafka, AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes.
You may have experience working on large-scale distributed systems.
You may have experience working on a customer-facing product team building abstractions for other teams to leverage.
You may have experience in test frameworks, continuous integration, static analysis, and developer tools.
