We’re searching for a Mechanical/Reliability Engineering Technician to work closely with a multidisciplinary team spanning both mechanical and electrical to define, design, integrate, and test the computer in Aurora’s AV system.

In this role, you will

  • Setup and execute reliability tests in environmental chambers, on vibration tables in house, and at external labs 
  • Setup characterization tests with strain gauges, accelerometers 
  • Prepare block diagrams of test setups, wire up test setup, training documentation for test setups
  • Work with the engineering team to debug test setup-related issues by communicating relevant information. 
  • Write fully descriptive test reports that include detailed test execution logs, test setup related issues and test results
  • Design and fabricate test fixtures
  • Experience working with mechanical fixtures using 80/20, 3D printing
  • Operate simple lab EE equipment like the oscilloscope, DMM
  • Ability to take hardware to external labs, setup, debug and monitor tests 
  • Do first pass analysis of data logs to look for errors. 
  • Run functional test scripts to analyze with documentation, assess functionality and performance of HW, with documentation, via test scripts executed in python
  • Work with Aurora engineering for troubleshooting, failure root cause, design modification, and validation
  • Maintain, stock, and organize the hardware lab
  • Ability to work with vendors for lab instrument calibration


Required Qualifications

  • Working experience fabricating first article hardware to advance product development
  • Familiarity with lab, rapid prototyping, and mechanical-thermal testing tools (including hand tools, basic machine shop, soldering iron, thermocouples, strain-gauges)
  • Experience with basic diagnostic tools such as programmable power supplies, scopes, multimeters
  • Mechanical and thermal engineering fundamentals, with basic knowledge of electrical engineering and ability to read schematics
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to details and quality workmanship
  • Familiarity with CAD including solid modeling and drawings (CATIA preferred). 


Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with AV or ADAS systems, sensor suites, and computer hardware
  • Basic programming experience in Python or C++
  • Strong technical writer
