Job Description / Skills Required

Evernote’s Chief Financial Officer is a member of the executive team and a key business partner to the chief executive officer, senior management, and our board of directors. As the senior financial officer of the business, the CFO will have responsibility for strategic and operational financial and accounting processes.


The CFO provides Evernote with analytical information and judgment to profitably grow the business while maintaining the integrity of financial information by establishing best in class systems and controls. The individual demonstrates executive presence and the ability to clearly articulate ideas and concepts, as well as understand business drivers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Be an inspiring business leader who quickly earns trust and credibility and provides strategic leadership to CEO and leadership team

  • Lead all financial planning and analysis, budget forecasting and re-forecasting, financial preparation / presentation and translate into actionable insights for strategic planning, cash flow management, financing, and board and investor meetings

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes; prepare financial statements and reports

  • Evaluate and improve processes and systems to identify opportunities to streamline and focus current efforts to ensure operational excellence and support of overall business growth

  • Implement organizational policies, operating procedures, and business controls that ensure sustainable business growth

  • Manage tax compliance and audits

  • Advise on strategic partnerships with a focus on deal analysis, forecasting, and business planning

  • Lead and develop a team of outstanding professionals and positively influence Evernote’s culture

  • Help manage internal and external relationships with a wide range of constituents including board of directors, employees, investment bankers, investors, commercial bankers, business partners, vendors, customer, lawyers and audit professionals


Skills & Personal Characteristics

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field; CPA desirable but not required

  • 15+ years of increasing financial leadership responsibility with experience in operational finance and FP&A

  • Domain experience in venture-growth stage technology companies; experience with SaaS business model/SaaS metrics preferred

  • Data-driven leader with multi-layered understanding of business economics and drivers

  • Extensive operational experience that includes project oversight and demonstrated leadership in an environment in which deadlines and accuracy are paramount

  • Experience managing external contacts such as auditors, tax accountants, investors, investment bankers, industry analysts, strategic partners, customers, vendors and others

  • Experience leading a company through financing and M&A transactions would be a plus

  • Previous experience building teams, implementing planning systems, and processes to facilitate the regular, accurate updates of forecast data in rapidly growing organization

  • Ability to prepare multi-period (monthly, quarterly, annual) projections for P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet

  • Familiarity with enterprise accounting systems

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to develop concise and well-organized summaries of complex analyses and data appropriate for Board level review; adept at distilling complex themes or issues concisely

  • Exemplify high-quality decision making and good judgment
