We are searching for a talented, motivated Systems Engineer to contribute to the research and development of our FirstLight LiDAR product family. 

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements and specifications for Aurora FirstLight LiDAR system components and subsystems; including Compute, ADCs, EMI/EMC, Power, and Photonics 
  • Collaborate closely with cross functional team members in the Electrical, Embedded Systems, Test, NPI, R&D and Autonomy Systems teams
  • Engage with technology project leads, and domain experts in creating the overall system architecture 
  • Prepare and present technical reports for management
  • Drive requirements and specifications for electrical components, subsystems, system validation and verification testing
  • Provide guidance for troubleshooting complex system quality issues throughout the product lifecycle from concept through fleet deployment
  • Defining requirements for external suppliers and contractors, and managing execution

Essential

  • MS in Electrical Engineer (or equivalent experience) 
  • 5+ years of industry experience in electrical design or systems engineering
  • Prior experience in collecting and analyzing data from complex systems using Matlab or Python 
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Prior experience with relevant systems such as: LiDAR, LADAR, Radar, Cameras, Optical Telecommunications or RF Systems 
  • Strong organizational abilities to drive and manage requirements end to end 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • PhD (or equivalent)
  • Autonomy or Automotive systems experience 
  • 8+ years of expertise and leadership in sensing or communication systems 
  • Expertise in system engineering processes and best practices
  • Familiarity with FMCW LiDAR

The Founding Team

Aurora has assembled the most experienced leadership team in the space. Chris Urmson helped lead Carnegie Mellon’s efforts in DARPA’s Grand Challenges, then was a founding member of Google’s self-driving team. Sterling Anderson worked on the tech at MIT before leading Tesla’s Autopilot system. Drew Bagnell, also a Carnegie Mellon alum, is a machine learning expert who helped build Uber’s autonomy effort. At Aurora, these three continue to bring experts from all areas of the industry to the team. We are funded by some of Silicon Valley’s best venture capital firms, including Sequoia, Greylock and Index Ventures.
