Our software engineers work across the self-driving vehicle system, from algorithm design to high-performance embedded work to distributed implementations. We are developing robust, high performance, and highly reliable software.
- Develop and maintain the build system for C++ and Python code, and data deployments.
- Assist with the rollout of new toolchains, target platforms, and supported runtime environments.
- Own the overall software build experience, tracking key build health metrics, and implementing new features and performance improvements.
- Partner with devops to run and scale distributed build execution and caching infrastructure.
- BS/MS or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years software engineering background, preferably build engineering.
- Experience using software build tools with large and complex codebases.
- Comfort and familiarity with programming on Linux systems and investigating technical issues.
- Experience with Python and package management tooling.
- Strong background in modern C++.
- Experience with Bazel, Buck, or similar modern build systems.
- Experience launching/operating a distributed build platform, i.e. Buildfarm, IncrediBuild, etc.
- Familiarity with Debian packaging.
- Experience compiling CUDA code and the Nvidia toolchains.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains.
- Experience with reproducible or hermetic builds.
- Experience with Java.

The Founding Team
Aurora has assembled the most experienced leadership team in the space. Chris Urmson helped lead Carnegie Mellon’s efforts in Darpa’s Grand Challenges, then was a founding member of Google’s self-driving team. Sterling Anderson developed MIT'S Intelligent CoPilot, then led the team that delivered Tesla Autopilot. Drew Bagnell, also a Carnegie Mellon alum, is a machine learning expert who helped build Uber’s autonomy effort. At Aurora, these three continue to bring experts from all areas of the industry to the team. We are funded by Amazon, T Rowe Price, and some of Silicon Valley’s best venture capital firms, including Sequoia, Greylock and Index Ventures.
