Truework is building a network for verified identity that puts consumers in control of their sensitive personal information.
Truework’s legal and compliance point of view should be as innovative as our technology, and enable our technology to best serve consumers. Truework is looking for a creative and growth-oriented legal leader who wants to help us in a number of ways: proactively engaging with and advocating for regulatory statutes that align with customers needs; working hand in hand in the product development process; and advising on privacy matters, including by suggesting practical solutions where GDPR and CCPA have failed to create meaningful mechanisms for consumers to exercise control over their data. As our first legal hire, you will work across the company to develop thought leadership around consumer rights, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) issues, and our data privacy philosophy, among other day to day legal responsibilities and experience.
You will work cross functionally across corporate matters, product, and business development to build upon our successful backing and solid foundations towards sustained growth in a field where Truework’s solution is filling a key gap in a market entrenched with old-tech competitors. We are looking for a trusted partner to help advise the leadership team on the appropriate risk-adjusted decisions that will enable our company’s success.
Delivering value to customers by researching, reviewing and advising our engineering and product teams on areas of Truework’s highly regulated products, including related to consumer credit history, background checks, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), privacy, and employment / human resources compliance;
Partnering with security, engineering, and IT to implement necessary legal controls related to our SOC2 and ISO27001 certifications, as well as other future enterprise risk and compliance related audits, reports and similar matters;
Reviewing, marking up and managing partnership agreements, customer agreements, and vendor agreements, with the ability to effectively scale contracts function and meet business needs on a timely schedule;
Reviewing the company’s privacy and related policies and building out Truework’s privacy compliance program;
Partnering with our people function on areas related to the growth of our Truework team;
Managing outside counsel engagements and spend; and
Interfacing with customers and potential customers on questions related to privacy, security, data, and regulatory matters.
Prior experience at or with a fast-growth startup technology company and ability to not just survive but thrive in a changing environment;
Experience flexing beyond your subject matter expertise, showing that you are true “utility” player and can engage in multiple subject matter areas, in multiple directions;
Intellectual curiosity and interest in privacy & the future of responsible information sharing;
Experience at or with a highly regulated company - while subject matter expertise in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is not required, someone who is able, eager and willing to dig into regulatory issues will be highly sought out;
Experience in financial services / fintech company a plus, but not required;
Prior partnership with technical teams, such as engineering, design and security;
Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements across internal and external stakeholders;
A focus on business orientation and growth: one of our immediate needs will be in support for commercial agreements; a lawyer who brings a growth lens will be highly valued;
Someone who believes there is no job too big or too small; and
A “big ideas” engager who can help us spot opportunities and manage risk across our planning cycles.
