Job Description / Skills Required

Embark Trucks is a leading self-driving truck company bringing autonomous freight mainstream. We have raised $117m by partnering with Tiger Global ($70m Series C) and Sequoia Capital ($30m Series B) to help grow our team and introduce our technology to the public. Currently, we move freight daily between LA and Phoenix using our purpose-built transfer hubs. We have aligned ourselves with truck manufacturers, shippers, and carriers to integrate our technology into the freight ecosystem. This is an incredibly exciting time for autonomous vehicles and our team is looking to grow.
 
We are looking for a Controller who will build and oversee our accounting function from the ground up. You will focus on both tactical and strategic objectives, leading day-to-day execution of our accounting operations, and building robust and scalable accounting systems that set Embark up for rapid growth. The ideal candidate has the eagerness to work in a fast-growing environment, flexibility to support all accounting tasks for the business, and the ability to work independently and in a team. This position will report to the Chief of Staff and serve as Embark’s first accounting hire.

What You’ll Do

    • Build and maintain accounting systems including budgeting, controls, inventory management, and reporting
    • Build and communicate accounting policies with employees and external auditors
    • Prepare the company’s financial statements and disclosures, ensuring all reporting is maintained in accordance with the U.S. GAAP standards
    • Support executive level financial decision making by providing and analyzing accurate financial data
    • Prepare audit schedules and related documentation requested by external auditors
    • Run the full accounting cycle for month-end and year-end book closing including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, fixed asset register maintenance, and reporting to senior leadership
    • Execute all daily accounting tasks including AP and AR
    • Prepare all local, state, and federal tax filings

Required Experience

    • CPA or equivalent accreditation with U.S. GAAP experience
    • 5+ years of accounting, audit, or related experience
    • Experience working with external auditors to conduct PCAOB audits
    • Understanding of accounting compliance regulations and reporting including SEC regulations

Preferred Experience

    • Experience scaling an accounting function, developing and implementing robust accounting policies, systems, and controls
    • Experience working in a high-growth startup environment
    • Experience working in a Big 4 Accounting Firm or blue chip public company
