To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, the Technology Development Team is seeking a highly motivated leader for the Process Engineering group to manage and build teams to develop highly efficient processing pipelines for multiple novel technologies and products for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing in a highly regulated environment. As the Automation Process Engineering Manager in the Technology Development department, you will work with members within the team and interface with multiple teams including assay development, reagent manufacturing, clinical operations, and bioinformatics. You will be required to design, implement, and validate new automation processes with rigorous documentation practices related to liquid biopsy sequencing assays for the early detection, treatment, and monitoring of all cancer types. You will also be an experienced leader with abilities to keep timelines on track within project teams of direct and indirect reports.

You are familiar with software, hardware and everything in between. A modern automation stack touches multiple engineering fields: electrical, mechanical, software, and IT. You know you can own that stack from start to finish. As a leader for automation and process engineering, you want to take advantage of any technology out there that will make a difference in providing an efficient and elegant solution to implementing your processes.
You work well with others and understand that ideas come from many places. The process engineering team collaborates extensively with other laboratory teams to come up with efficient, creative solutions. Gathering ideas/requirements from the end users will be a critical part for success of the automation team. You will balance developing new ideas and processes while managing and understanding the flaws in existing ones.
Be able to work in a team environment to develop, test and validate automated processes using Hamilton liquid handling platforms for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing with rigorous and thorough documentation practices
Work cross functionally to transfer technology and products from development into a regulated environment (CLIA/CAP/NYSDOH/FDA)
Lead the development of a robust approach to scaling complex technologies while lowering costs in a high throughput production environment
Be hands on and Independently contribute to support highly prioritized and urgent projects and balance team workload
Team mentoring through training, coaching and developing personal growth opportunities
Recruit and train employees for the process engineering group
Education: BSc, MSc or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry or related field.
At least 8-10 years of relevant experience and 3-5 years as a technical and strategic manager
High level computer skills with intermediate programming ability (R, python, etc)
Hands-on experience in running sequencing platforms and assays is a plus
Experience working in an ISO13485 or under design control (FDA) is a plus
Local candidates in San Francisco Bay area are preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience in production support and process development
Experience with statistics, Statistical Process Control and DOE techniques
Experience programming Hamilton liquid handling platforms
High level problem solving and reasoning skills
ASQ CQE certification preferred
