Guardant Health

Developing technology that aims to transform cancer to a preventable and manageable disease.

Manager, Automation Process Engineering
Redwood City, CA, US
Job Description / Skills Required

Company Description

We believe conquering cancer is a big data problem. That’s why we built the world’s leading comprehensive liquid biopsy. This non-invasive tool for accessing and sequencing tumor DNA is used by thousands of oncologists to help tens of thousands of advanced cancer patients. We believe the boom in cancer data acquisition we helped launch will drive important discoveries and new products. We’re working on some exciting ones, including in early detection, where the impact on patients can be profound. We’ve raised more than $500 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, OrbiMed, and SoftBank.

Job Description

To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, the Technology Development Team is seeking a highly motivated leader for the Process Engineering group to manage and build teams to develop highly efficient processing pipelines for multiple novel technologies and products for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing in a highly regulated environment. At Guardant, we leverage the most advanced technologies and work with leaders in many different fields to create the most impactful and meaningful technologies for cancer management.

As the Automation Process Engineering Manager in the Technology Development department, you will work with members within the team and interface with multiple teams including assay development, reagent manufacturing, clinical operations, and bioinformatics. You will be required to design, implement, and validate new automation processes with rigorous documentation practices related to liquid biopsy sequencing assays for the early detection, treatment, and monitoring of all cancer types. You will also be an experienced leader with abilities to keep timelines on track within project teams of direct and indirect reports.

The challenges of a startup excite you, and you realize the disruptive social potential of circulating tumor DNA screening. Guardant Health is changing the world through products that drastically change the way that cancer patients can manage their disease. Our ability to build and maintain scalable and efficient systems in a clinical environment will enable us to help more patients, and you will be a key driver of this. You believe in this mission and have the same sense of urgency that we do.

You are familiar with software, hardware and everything in between. A modern automation stack touches multiple engineering fields: electrical, mechanical, software, and IT. You know you can own that stack from start to finish. As a leader for automation and process engineering, you want to take advantage of any technology out there that will make a difference in providing an efficient and elegant solution to implementing your processes.

You work well with others and understand that ideas come from many places. The process engineering team collaborates extensively with other laboratory teams to come up with efficient, creative solutions. Gathering ideas/requirements from the end users will be a critical part for success of the automation team. You will balance developing new ideas and processes while managing and understanding the flaws in existing ones.
