Job Purpose

The Produce Field Buyer will help develop and grow the producer partnerships that are at the heart of Good Eggs’ Produce program. This position will do in-person visits to existing farms, distributors and makers and will spend time discovering the next generation of Good Eggs’ suppliers.

Duties and responsibilities

Build strong and collaborative relationships with assigned current producers
Provide forecasts to farmers for upcoming seasonal needs
Work with farms to expand production as needed to serve Good Eggs’ customers
Negotiate costs in concert with head of Produce category
Ensure each farm meets standards for taste, quality, integrity, and transparency
Ensure each farm is in compliance with all food safety and other applicable regulations
Use in-person opportunities to resolve Ops-identified serious or ongoing problems with delivery, supply, invoicing, rejections, etc.
Establish relationships with new producers
Sourcing/discovering and onboarding new producers according to needs identified by head of Produce category
Ensure each farm meets standards for taste, quality, integrity, and transparency
Ensure each farm is in compliance with all food safety and other applicable regulations
Coordinate creation and launch of new items and webstands with Produce eCommerce Merchandiser
Coordinate ordering process for new items and handoff at appropriate junction to foodhub Produce buying teams
Support shared sourcing when multiple foodhubs are purchasing together, including forecasting, ordering and logistics support
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years relevant work experience, either on farms or in produce retail/distribution
Experience in procurement / purchasing, preferably in the produce industry
Knowledge of local and regional produce varieties, growing practices, quality standards and seasonality
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Outstanding communication and time management skills
RELEVANT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of quality standards and industry certifications
Experience managing relationships with outside vendors
Experience growing and/or selling produce; crop planning experience
Understanding of margins and profitability
Proficiency in Google and MS Office suite software (i.e. spreadsheets, presentation, and word processing software)
Ability to understand and engage with new tools
Strong negotiation skills
Strong team player
