First Meeting

In late 2010, we recruited David Vélez from Stanford GSB to help us evaluate whether to open a Sequoia office in Brazil. While we ended up passing on opening the office, we had stumbled upon something else—an opportunity to partner with one of the most dynamic founders in Latin America. Based on our great working relationship with David and a short pitch deck for what would become Nubank, we backed him in the Seed round. Since that time it’s been increasingly clear that this unconventional team is growing a powerful business in Brazil.
